Writers are notoriously reticent to talk about themselves and I guess I'm no exception.

I was born and live in Bristol (that's England) having grown up in Derbyshire. One of the often-quoted rules of writing is 'write about what you know', so it should come as no surprise that Bristol and Derbyshire feature largely in my novels.

Most writers have a hero or central character and mine happens to be German. Well, that perhaps is debatable, but that he lives in Germany is no coincidence, for Germany is a country close to my heart.What is the allure of writing? It is said we have at least one story within us to tell , it's just a matter of committing pen to paper. However, it never ceases to amaze me how real the characters within the novels become and even as their creator, it wonderful to share in their foibles, fear and pleasures.

My spiritual home has become Flash Seminary and I am constantly drawn back to that Victorian Gothic pile, a house with a manipulative soul. Long may she flourish atop her windswept Derbyshire escarpment.
